Carers take their case to Westminster

Today and tomorrow carers from across the country will be taking their case to MPs. Today a group of over a hundred carers will go to Westminster to tell MPs why they need urgent help and support. Tomorrrow on Carers Rights Day there will be over 1000 events across the country and thousands more carers will meet their MPs to press home the point that carers are in crisis.

As MP's back our calls for improvements to carer benefits Carers Uk is organising a lobby of Parliament and there is news of a carer led day of action for April 2009.

In June the government published the National Strategy for Carers. We had hoped that it would contain some improvements to carers benefits but there were none. Carers were very disappointed and angry. However the Strategy does promise a review of carer benefits so we are determined to redouble our campaigning efforts.

Carers UK continues it's 'real change not short change' campaign by sending out thousands of campaign postcards to carers and organisations across the UK.

"Mr. Brown, you are inheriting a ticking time bomb. If not addressed soon this issue could be what brings this country to its knees and you along with it." That's the message one carer has sent. Only two weeks into the campaign and already over 1000 carers have already signed up online to support the campaign and send their message to Gordon Brown.
