Coalition on Charging Cymru
Free Home Care for disabled people -Campaigns pack
On 15th February 2006 the Welsh Assembly Government announced that it was unable to honour its longstanding pledge to introduce free homecare for disabled people. The decision not to implement the policy centred on concerns that the policy could not be introduced ‘affordably and equitably’. This decision represents a severe blow to thousands of disabled people who rely on community care support.
This campaign pack has been designed to help campaigners demonstrate to Welsh Assembly Government the impact that this decision will have on disabled people and the strength of feeling that exists around the issue. The pack comprises a range of materials designed to:
1. Set out the argument in favour of Free Home Care;
2. Show politicians the strength of feeling around this issue;
3. Demonstrate the impact on disabled people of not implementing free home care.
The pack contains materials that will be useful for campaigning and raising awareness of the issue.
· A model letter to send to your AM;
· A model letter to send to your MP;
· A press release that can be submitted to your local newspaper;
· A model letter to send to your local Councillors;
· A model motion that you can ask your Councillors to table at a council meeting;
· Organising a street stall to mobilise support from local people;
· A model petition that you could use
· A model press release to highlight a street stall
· A model letter to the press.
Finally, there is also included a briefing about free home care, which includes a handy initial summary, and a directory of organisations who you could approach to provide advice.
This pack has been produced by Leonard Cheshire on behalf of the Coalition on Charging.
