The role of the Wales Committee -
1. Purpose:
To develop the work of Carers Wales and ensure that the experience of carers in Wales influences the work and strategy of Carers UK.
2. Status:
The committee is a sub-committee of the Carers UK Board of Trustees. It does not have any responsibility for the employment of the staff in Wales or for the funding of the Wales Office. These responsibilities rest with the Board of Trustees. The Wales Committee nominates one of its members to serve on the Board of Trustees and act as the main link between the Committee and the Board.
3. Membership
There are places for 10 elected carer members. These must be individual members of Carers UK. They can be either current or former carers. There are also places for co-opted members (up to a maximum of 7 places). Co-options can be used to ensure that the Committee reflects the diverse nature of Wales.
4. Commitment required
Committee members are currently elected for a three - year term of office. Committee meetings are normally held three times a year in the Carers Wales office in Cardiff. Approved out-of pocket expenses will be paid. Committee members will also be expected to attend the annual Wales Members' Conference. New Members will be offered induction training. All members are provided with regular information from the staff. All Committee members are expected to act in the best interests of Carers Wales and must operate within its policy framework, including the Equal Opportunity Policy, Welsh Language Policy and the Committee's Terms of Reference.
