Influencing practice at the local level
Influencing the way services are provided.
We try to improve the way that services are provided at the local level. We do this:
- through our Wales-wide network of branches. Branches campaign locally on carers' issues. Their members often represent carers on Consultative Committees of both voluntary and statutory agencies. They also bring carers to the attention of the general public through events such as the annual Carers Week. Branches give support and information to fellow carers through their regular meetings and social events. Go to Finding help to find your nearest branch.
- by working with the network of Carers Support services throughout Wales. Go to Finding help to find your nearest Carer Support Service.
- by supporting carers' forums throughout Wales. The forums give carers in a particular local authority area the opportunity to meet representatives from health and social services. Carers are able to discuss any issues of concern and campaign to influence how the statutory agencies work for them.
- through our support of local carers' strategy groups. These work as a partnership with the local authority, health, voluntary and carers' groups to ensure the development and implementation of the Wales Carers Strategy at local level.
- through working directly with service providers, running seminars, making presentations and delivering training events on issues such as carers' rights and assessments.
- through the provision of information, statistics and research to policy makers and service providers.
- through our work with employers and others to help carers who are trying to juggle caring with paid employment.
It is hard to keep abreast of all the changes affecting carers, especially if working with carers is only part of your job.
Join our associate membership scheme and we'll keep you in touch with the latest developments and information on carers and caring.
Associate membership is open to anyone who works to support and provide information to carers - whether you're part of an organisation, a social or health care team or a carers group.
